For a long time, the substance Retin-A has been used in the treatment of various skin conditions, especially acne. It has been found lately though, that this prescription drug does not only treat moderate acne, but it also helps extensively to repair sun damaged skin. During research, the substance was placed on one forearm of thirty test subjects, and a panacea was placed on their other arms to erase the error of a placebo effect. Not so interestingly the forearms treated with the panacea appeared typically the same after four months of treatment, while the forearms treated with Retin-A were a lot less wrinkled.

The foregoing was following an arbitrary observation that people using the product for the treatment of the eruptive and inflammatory acne not only had their acnes healed and their scars faded, but they also had skin that a lot fresher and softer toned. This prompted the added research and analysis revealed that skin treated with Retin-A grows new cell tissue to replace dead or damaged cells. As such, this product has been in use for the same purpose for the greater part of two decades.

Back in late 1980s, there was concern about the use of the cream as an anti-wrinkle medication, with the then commissioner of the FDA declaring that it was an ‘expensive therapeutic gamble.’ As such it had not been approved as an anti-wrinkle treatment when the application of it started, prompting several phony and knockoff versions of Retin-A to instantly appear on the market.

Since it is a natural derivative of vitamin A, there is little question about the chemical ability of the substance to restore skin tone and aid in rejuvenation. However, there was need to improve on the patent and prototype so that it could be used specifically for the purpose of wrinkle reduction on the face, neck, and arms, and various portions of the body that are exposed to the sun a lot more than others. In that wise, the product was improved upon and upgraded from Tretinoin to isotretinoin.

Even in modern times, isotretinoin is a known inhibitor of the skin’s ability to form wrinkles and retain dead cells, and it aids extensively in the repair of wrinkling and rough, mottled skin. It is available in cream, lotion and gel form and needs to be used only once a day, preferably at night. You are not to leave the anti-wrinkle treatment on your skin for longer than thirty minutes at any time before you wash it off, and you are to stay on the product for the greater part of three weeks before the first encouraging results are visible. From that time, you will find your wrinkles gradually fade to be replaced by a rejuvenated skin.

The potential side effects of Tretinoin may include increased sensitivity to the sun in some extreme cases, peeling of the skin, or excessive redness, darkening of the skin color and a stinging heat sensation at the time the medication is applied. You may want to be very careful with this treatment if your skin is actually broken at any point; it could also result in further inflammation. Retin-A has close relatives Vesanoid and Renoval, both derivatives of Tretinoin. They all influence cell creation and wrinkle reduction, also lengthening the lifecycle of the cells in the follicle lining of your skin, making it hard for wrinkles to persist.
